Pick #5saja: Bites that make it Hari Raya

Just like any other festivities, Hari Raya comes with delicious bites and kuihs that are closely associated with the month-long celebration. Some have been in our tradition in Brunei for ages, others go through a modern twist and there are also those kuihs that have become popular over the years and are absolute must-haves served in open houses!

1. Icy Lucky Hoof

Known for their kek roll tapak kuda, Icy opens orders for Hari Raya early and slots are usually filled up very quickly. There are also other winning variations such as the red velvet tapak kuda with toppings of choice such as Lotus Biscoff, Nutella, and more.

2. batikkrunch

As they say, they serve a modern twist on the already well-loved batik cakes. Traditional batik cake is usually a bit soft whereas bk’s have a crunchy bite to them, as their business name implies. To date, they have more than a dozen batik cake varieties and flavors on their menu with the newest addition being the Batik Peanut O’Butter.

3. Moor Mama

Moor Mama specializes in making and selling classic kuih mor with “the old-school taste” as they state in their bio. You can’t beat the original taste, in our opinion. Her kuih mor is selling at a starting price of $5.50 for 30 pieces and orders are required to be made 3 days in advance.

4. Popia Paradise

Popia is one of those snacks that you can never stop eating at just several pieces if they’re really good. Don’t deny it; you probably had a few too many snack accidents at open houses where you almost finished off one container on your own. Popia Paradise offers frozen popia, the classic popia gulung, popia simpul, and keropok popia dusted with flavor powders and flakes such as seaweed, cheese, etc.

5. Cornflakes Madu Memajal by Dfoodie House

Another popular snack would be the honey cornflakes. Again, another snaccident that’s all too common, because they can be that addictive! Cornflakes Madu Memajal is offered in original and spicy versions. Even though they have closed orders for Hari Raya early, keep a lookout for when they post extras!

That’s the end of the kuih recommendations from us! Which kuihs and snacks are you looking forward to taking a bite off of this Hari Raya?
